Tennis Elbow Acupuncture Gold Coast
Tennis elbow (also known as Lateral Epicondylitis) is tendinopathy affecting the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon on the outer elbow. This is usually caused by repetitive wrist/forearm motions. While common in racket sports like tennis, it also occurs in jobs like painting, typing, plumbing, or carpentry. It causes tendon irritation, micro-tears, inflammation, and pain, often worsening with gripping.

Tennis Elbow Symptoms
Common symptoms of Tennis elbow include:
- Pain/tenderness on the elbow’s lateral side
- Pain radiating into forearm/wrist
- Weakness in grip or lifting
- Difficulty rotating the forearm, opening doors, shaking hands
How does Acupuncture help for Tennis Elbow?
- Stimulates local blood flow and reduces inflammation
- Promotes natural pain control via opioid release and neurological effects
- Recommended as part of physical therapy to accelerate recovery
A 2020 RCT across Australia, China, Hong Kong, and Italy (n=96) showed acupuncture significantly reduced pain and improved function compared to sham laser. [1]
Acupuncture appears to offer short-term analgesia and functional improvement for tennis elbow, with strong suggestive evidence from clinical trials, though larger, well-designed studies are needed to confirm long-term benefits.
