It may develop from many different diseases and conditions and can be a secondary condition. As an example, pelvic pain may arise from normal menstruation, appendicitis and bladder problems. It may sometimes be associated with both benign and emergency medical conditions. Pelvic pain in most people should be investigated by a medical professional.

Pelvic pain arising from the female reproductive system might be caused by conditions such as:

  • Adenomyosis

Acupuncture for Pelvic Pain Research

A recent study found that Acupuncture treatment reduced menstrual pain intensity and duration after three months of treatment and this was sustained for up to one year after trial entry. The study was titled “The role of treatment timing and mode of stimulation in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea with acupuncture: An exploratory randomised controlled trial”. [1]

The above research suggests that Acupuncture may provide beneficial outcomes however other papers did not have the same findings so the evidence is regarded as mixed.
