Stress and Anxiety Acupuncture Gold Coast

Stress is as condition of anxiety or mental strain resulting from challenging circumstances. It is a natural human reaction that encourages us to confront difficulties and dangers in our lives. Each individual experiences stress to some extent, but our responses to it significantly impact our overall health and well-being.

Anxiety and Stress Symptoms

Stress can hinder our ability to unwind and is often accompanied by various emotions such as anxiety and irritability. During stressful times, focusing can become challenging.

Physical symptoms may include:

  • Headaches
  • Body Aches
  • Digestive Issues
  • Sleep Disturbances

Additionally, stress can lead to changes in appetite, either causing a decrease or an increase in food intake.

Symptoms of stress can impact your physical health, mental state, emotions, and actions. Recognising these common symptoms is essential for effective management. If left unaddressed, stress can result in various health issues.

Depression Symptoms

Depression, also known as major depressive disorder, is a common and serious mental health condition that impacts your emotions, thoughts, actions, and outlook on life.

Depression is more common among women than men, and it affects younger adults more often than older adults. Although depression can develop at any age, it typically begins in the late teenage years to the mid-20s.

Depression can look different for everyone, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Some common signs include:

  • Feeling sad, irritable, empty, or hopeless.
  • Losing interest or enjoyment in activities you used to like.
  • Noticeable changes in how much you eat or your weight (gaining or losing weight without trying).
  • Sleeping much more or less than usual.
  • Having low energy or feeling unusually tired or fatigued.
  • Restlessness, such as being unable to sit still, pacing, or wringing your hands, or moving and speaking more slowly than normal—enough that others notice.
  • Experiencing feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt.
  • Having trouble thinking clearly, concentrating, being forgetful, or struggling to make even simple decisions.

How does Acupuncture relieve Stress, Anxiety and Depression?

Endorphins, often referred to as the body’s natural painkillers, are released during Acupuncture treatments. [1] The release of endorphins are thought to create a sense of well-being and relaxation. This may contribute to the potential for Acupuncture to have stress reduction effects.

Acupuncture for Stress and Anxiety Research

Current evidence regarding the management of mood and anxiety disorders using complementary and alternative medicine showed that Acupuncture has potential use in anxiety (79).

Results from an integrative review titled “Effects from acupuncture in treating anxiety” show that the effects from acupuncture for treating anxiety have been shown to be significant as compared to conventional treatments (80).

A systematic review from 2015 titled “Effects of acupressure on anxiety: a systematic review and meta-analysis” showed the Acupressure is effective in reducing anxiety (201).

The above research suggests that Acupuncture may provide beneficial outcomes however other papers did not have the same findings so the evidence is regarded as mixed.
